The town grew by about two thirds in a decade, so many systems here are still on their original parts. Tell us the street and the symptom, and we will start there.

Heating and cooling in Moncks Corner means looking after a town that grew quickly. The census counted 7,885 people here in 2010 and 13,297 in 2020, and that growth sits on top of an older county-seat town. Plenty of systems are still on their original parts, while the older streets have the opposite trouble. Aero Air Techs is based in Charleston, and Moncks Corner is about 39 minutes by road from our Charleston base, a 28-mile trip.
Tell us which end of town you are in, because the likely fault changes with it.
Foxbank, Carolina Grove and the US 52 building boom
Start with the age of your subdivision. The Post and Courier reported in 2019 that Foxbank Plantation, off US 52 near Cypress Gardens Road, had more than 1,400 of its 2,422 approved homes built. The same report listed close to 3,900 more units planned around town, including Carolina Grove on the former nursery site along US 52 and Fairmont Pines at Cypress Gardens Road and Old Highway 52. Those were plans at the time, not a count of what stands today.
Homes finished before that report are now at least seven years old. That is when first-generation wear tends to appear: a weak capacitor, a pitted contactor, a drain line that slowly clogs. A slow drain matters more when the air handler sits in the attic above a finished ceiling.

Sizing is the other question in a tight new house. An oversized system hits the set point fast, quits early and leaves the rooms clammy. Manual J is the fix: a heat load worked out room by room before anyone picks a size.
The traditional part of town is a different job. Ductwork under an older house can outlast several outdoor units, and a new condenser cannot fix a leaky run.

How much colder are winters up toward Lake Moultrie?
Slightly colder than the airport, and far colder than the peninsula. National Weather Service averages for 1991 to 2020 put the Moncks Corner 4 N station's first freeze at November 26 and its last at March 10. The airport comes in at November 27 and March 7. Downtown Charleston holds out until December 30 and is done by February 4.
So if you moved up from the city, expect a longer heating season than you are used to. Your heat pump will go through genuine defrost cycles, and the first hard frost is when a bad sequencer or a tired heat strip shows itself.

Water plays a part too. The town sits south of the lake, and its eastern edge reaches the West Branch of the Cooper River. Shaded lots near that water stay damp, which feeds algae in drain lines and keeps coils wet.
Heating and cooling in Moncks Corner by type of home
These are the jobs the town's housing points to:
- AC maintenance for subdivision systems reaching the age when a spring check catches a weak capacitor before July. Foxbank and Carolina Grove homes went up in waves, so neighbors' units may start failing together.
- AC repair when an original contactor or fan motor quits on a 90-degree afternoon. At about 39 minutes from our base, have the model number ready so the likely part comes along.
- Heat pump repair for defrost faults between late November and early March. Colder nights than the peninsula also put more hours on backup strips. New gas homes can start with furnace installation.
- Duct repair and replacement for older in-town houses where the ducts have outlived the equipment. A new system on tired ducts wastes the upgrade, so test them before you sign a replacement quote.
- Whole home dehumidifiers for shaded lots near the lake or the river that stay sticky all summer. Check the condensate drain and airflow first, because a cheaper fix may solve most of it.
- AC replacement for older in-town systems when a major part fails. Santee Cooper's reported rebate applies to its own customers, so read your bill before you compare heat pump and AC quotes.

Carolina Avenue or Highway 52: who handles your permit?
Check the town limits first. The Town of Moncks Corner runs its own building department, and Town Hall is at 118 Carolina Avenue. Berkeley County's permitting department, at 1003 Highway 52, issues mechanical permits for unincorporated areas, and an address outside the limits can still carry a Moncks Corner mailing address. Annexation has moved those lines before, so let the town confirm yours.
Before you sign anything, find out which party holds the permit, and look up that contractor's license on the SC LLR lookup.
Santee Cooper country and your power bill
Read the bill before you price a heat pump. Santee Cooper keeps its corporate offices in Moncks Corner, but that does not mean it serves your house. It sells power directly in some of the county, and Berkeley Electric Cooperative and Dominion Energy each cover other stretches.
If the bill says Santee Cooper, its home rebate program is reported to pay its own customers $300 to $400 per heat pump system. If it says Dominion, look at Dominion's rebates. Confirm the amount and the terms on the provider's page before any equipment goes in.
Setting up a visit from the Charleston side
Give us the address and the nearest landmark. US 52 runs through town, US 17 Alt heads toward Summerville and SC 6 follows the lakes northwest, so "off 52" only narrows it so far. Cypress Gardens Road or Stony Landing Road, the way to Old Santee Canal Park, tells us more.
Map time is about 39 minutes. Traffic and the day's calls change that, so ask about timing on the phone instead of trusting the map. We are open around the clock. Once we are on site, the testing comes first, then you see the failed part and get a clear, upfront quote.
Nearby towns and the rest of the map are on our service areas page.

Questions about Moncks Corner
Is a system in a 10-year-old Moncks Corner subdivision home worth repairing?
Usually yes, if the failure is a small part. A capacitor, contactor or drain problem says little about the life of the system. A failed compressor deserves a wider talk, so read the data plate and look up the manufacturer's warranty terms before you decide. Tell us the model and the symptom when you call, and we will quote before work begins.
Can you reach homes past town toward Lake Moultrie?
Call with the address and we will tell you. The 39-minute figure is road time to town, so a lot out along SC 6 or farther north takes longer, and we do not have a mapped time for each road. We will talk through a date on that call, before you commit to anything.
Why does my newer Moncks Corner home feel sticky with the AC running?
Start with sizing and airflow. A system that is too large for a tight house reaches the set point fast and shuts off before it has pulled much moisture from the air. Shade and damp ground near the lake or the Cooper River add to it. We check run time, airflow and the drain first, then talk about whether a whole home dehumidifier makes sense.
