Indoor air quality in Charleston usually comes down to moisture first and filtration second. Crawl spaces, attics full of ductwork and long, humid summers shape how a house feels, and an AC that cools without drying makes it worse. Aero Air Techs is an HVAC contractor based in Charleston, and this page helps you match the problem to the right service.
Indoor air quality in Charleston: where to start
Find your home air quality problem below.
- The house feels sticky. Read about whole home dehumidifiers, and see why Charleston homes feel humid even with the AC on.
- Some rooms never cool. Leaks often pull humid attic air into the system, so look at duct repair and replacement.
- Dust keeps settling. Check air purifiers and filtration before anything bigger.
- You found droppings or heavy debris in a duct. Air duct cleaning may fit, though our post on whether it is worth it explains EPA's narrow list of cases.
- The system runs at the wrong times. A correctly set up thermostat can help.
Ask about the system too. Routine AC maintenance keeps coils and drains from adding moisture, and AC repair covers a coil that has stopped doing its job. If the system is oversized, AC replacement may matter more than any add-on.
What can IAQ services honestly promise?
Less than the ads suggest. EPA says no air cleaner or filter will eliminate all pollutants, and that filtration does not replace source control and ventilation. We make no medical claims about allergies, asthma, mold or germs.
Three lines we hold to:
- We do not offer mold remediation.
- We do not list lab air quality testing as a service.
- We advise against devices that make ozone on purpose. EPA says ozone can harm the lungs and has little potential to remove indoor contaminants at safe levels.

Questions about this service
Will these services help my allergies?
We cannot promise that. EPA says studies of portable HEPA units found small health gains that are not always noticeable, and it says duct cleaning has never been shown to prevent health problems. We work on humidity, airflow and filtration. Your doctor is the right person to ask about symptoms.
Do you do air quality testing?
We do not list lab air testing as a service. What we can do is read pressures and airflow, inspect ducts and talk through your humidity numbers. If you need air samples or a suspected mold identified, an independent specialist is the right call, and EPA says only an expert can confirm mold.
Do you remove mold?
No, we do not offer mold remediation. We can look for HVAC moisture sources such as slow drains, sweating ducts and an AC that fails to dry the air. EPA says that if you clean up mold without fixing the water problem, it will most likely return, so the source comes first.
Where should I start if my house feels stuffy?
Start with a hygrometer and your filter. EPA suggests keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent if possible. If the reading is high in a Charleston summer, the AC or ducts are the next stop. If it is fine and the rooms still feel stale, ask us about airflow and return size.
